The Promotion of Taiwan-Germany Environmental Cooperation and Exchange

The purposes of this project were to explore future environmental cooperation opportunities between Taiwan and Germany, to strengthen bilateral environmental dialogue and exchange, and to ensure our domestic environmental policies in line with international development through organizing the Taiwan-German Environmental Forum and analyzing German environmental policies and priority issues. The main tasks were described as follows: Under this project, the Second Taiwan-Germany Environmental Forum was successfully organized and held on October 2, 2019. Invited by Minister Chang Tzi-Chin of the Environmental Protection Administration, Mr. Klaus Mindrup, the member of the German Bundestag led a German delegation to Taiwan to exchange views with local experts on issues of concern, such as climate change/energy transition, circular economy/plastic waste source reduction, and air pollution control. The forum received wide popularity and more than 120 people from the public sector, industry and academia attended the forum. In addition, German’s major environmental policies were analyzed for exploring bilateral cooperation opportunities with stakeholders of successful experience in the future and to offer suggestions for cooperation. To name some of priority issues in line with domestic policy priorities were air pollution control, plastic waste reduction, green consumption policy, waste management, carbon emissions trading, biomass power generation, public participation in environmental policies, etc. With regard to assiting the preparation for the 2019 Yushan Forum, the project team also helped with searching and compling information on the VIP list for invitation.
